The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow

One of the most precious things about sewing for others is the privilege of creating an item to be worn during a special event of a child's life.  Something I made is captured in their family album and becomes part of the story of their life. I know it's a tiny part, but it still feels like an honor every time.

This week has been filled with lovely opportunities to create special items for the beautiful children of friends.

Claudia is playing the role of Lil' Orphan Annie in her Jr. High play.  The dress is made from roma knit with organic white knit collar and trim.  There's a bow tied in the back and the dress has just a bit of twirl for those dance steps during the musical numbers. The best part was how Claudia's face lit up when she saw her reflection in the mirror during the final fitting. She looks darling! Underneath the mammoth curls of the Annie wig, she has GORGEOUS long hair. Amazing how the costume really transformed her. Here’s a peek of a dress-rehearsal for the play.

Do you have special memories of fave outfit worn for special events in your childhood? What were they?
